Mission Report: Cooking 3&4, Curry and Rice, Southafrica

Report from South Africa:

Yesterday evening I did challange 3 and 4.

I was tired, had been out for a long weekend, but it was fun to do the cooking!

Curry:
I used S&B Golden Curry

and the following:
2x small carrots
2x Onions
2x Potatos
Some Mushrooms
Some Peas
200 g Pork (I know it was not correct, should have been beef)
Water



Rice:
Rice
Water

First I chopped the vegtables and pork in mouth-size bits.


Then I sligthly fried the meat, onions and vegtables (not the Mushrooms and Peas)



Next step was to add water. Unfortunatly I do not have any measurements so I had to use a old water bottle.


After letting it boil for 20 minutes I added the roux. Then I just left the pot to simmer for 5 more minutes.

The Mushrooms were added to boil for the last ten minutes and the Peas were added for the 5 min simmer.


The result looked like this:


It was very taste but a bit watery. I probably added to much water.


Rice:

I want a rice-cooker!!!!



After washing the rice I left it to rest for 2h.

Then I added approx 125% of water and stired.

Then I put the pot on the stove, highest temprature.


Brougth it to violent boil and then lowered the heat to weak.

I also used a wooden spoon to mix at this stage. I put back the lid on.

After only 4-5 min the water level was below the rice! I could not belive that it would be rady so quickly! I took the pot of the heat and leaved it for 10 min.
The rice what a little bit al dente put perfectly acceptable! Next time I will use little bit more water.

Det ser ju jättebra ut, mycket mera grejer i än min!
Sockerärtorna (heter de så?) var väldigt fint, gav en aptitlig grön färg till maten.
Jag tycker riset såg också bra ut. Minutrarna för riset som jag uppgav var bara ungefär, det fanns olika metoder. Jag tycker att det set lagom klibbig och bra ut.

Kul o se att rouxen ger lite olika färger. Golden curry var den jag brukade äta. men varför fläsk? (många äter curry med fläsk i japan, men hemma hos mig var det alltid biff)

Ja, sockerärtorna var lyckade. Det var mest för färgens skull som jag la till dem. Men det var dessutom gott.
Skulle nog vara fint att lägga till ngt rött ocksp. Kanske paprika.

Riset blev ok. Lite al dente. Gick så snabbt att koka! Som sagt, nästagång blir det lite mer vatten i det. Var nog väldigt gammalt.

Anledningen till att det blev fläsk var att jag helt enkelt missat att skriva upp vilken typ av kött det skulle vara. I affären så gissade jag att det skulle vara fläsk. Det blev också gott!
